The 21,856 tonne, 2150 lane metre Strait Feronia operates under the Bluebridge passenger brand but is a key provider of Strait Shipping’s freight offering.
Suitable for every type of freight from livestock to breakbulk or overdimensional loads, the Strait Feronia sails twice daily from both Picton and Wellington.
Traveling at a service speed of 16 knots, the Strait Feronia runs two Wartsila 8L46B engines and features 1x 1100kW + 2x 680 kW bow thrusters along with Fincantieri stabilizer fins.
Prior to entering service in New Zealand the vessel received a full refurbishment of the public areas to meet our customers needs. The refurbishment included the introduction of a movie lounge, quiet lounge, family room, working station and an upgrade to the cafe and bar area.
Formally called the Stena Feronia, the ship joined our fleet in June 2015 after sailing an overnight service between Gothenburg (Sweden) and Kiel (Germany). The vessel was renamed 'Strait Feronia' recognising its past heritage and its future with Strait Shipping.
The Strait Feronia was built by Cantiere Navale Visentini in Italy in 1997. With an overall length of 186 metres and a draft of 6.4 metres the imposing Strait Feronia is quickly becoming one of Cook Strait’s most loved vessels.
